Obituary

Merle I. Barrett (née Miller) passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, in Lawrence, New Jersey, at the age of 78. Born on May 24, 1948, in El Paso, Texas, Merle’s vibrant spirit, unwavering strength, and boundless love touched the lives of everyone she encountered.

Merle was the beloved daughter of Leonard Miller and Dorothy Ettinger, who preceded her in death. As a young woman, Merle was dedicated to her studies, earning her associate degree, and later embraced the fulfilling role of homemaker. Her home was a haven; a place filled with warmth, kindness, and joy, where family and friends always felt welcome.

Those who knew Merle fondly remember her as a social butterfly. Wherever she went, her enthusiasm uplifted those around her, and it was often said that she never met a stranger. Merle’s compassion, strength, and remarkable energy defined her life and left a lasting impression on all who were fortunate to share in her journey.

Merle’s love of family was at the very heart of her existence. She is survived by her devoted children: her son Robert Miller and daughter-in-law Guilan Miller; her daughter Jessica Welker and son-in-law William Welker; her daughter Jennifer Lynch and son-in-law Thomas Lynch; her daughter Kimberely Barrett and significant other, Michael Kleinschmidt. Merle’s legacy continues through her adored grandchildren; Mary Lynch, Abigail Lynch, and Tessa Lynch, who were constant sources of pride and joy in her life.

She faced personal loss with remarkable resilience, remembering always her beloved son, Thomas Jaichner, whose memory she carried with her, along with treasured recollections of her parents.

Beyond her deep commitment to family, Merle delighted in following the Philadelphia Eagles. Win or lose, her loyal enthusiasm for the team brought countless hours of excitement for all.

A public viewing will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Peppler Funeral Home – Bordentown, located at 122 Crosswicks St, Bordentown, NJ 08505. A funeral service will follow at the same location starting at 6:00 PM. Inurnment will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery at a later date.
