William “Bill” F. Pohlman, 94, of Audubon, PA, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2026. Born in West Haven, CT to the late Harry C. and Hannah Block Pohlman, he attended the University of Connecticut and was active with the ROTC. It was here that he met the love of his life, Roberta “Bobbie” Beach who would later become his wife.

After graduation, in 1954, he joined the US Army. In March 1956, as Second Lieutenant, he received a certificate of proficiency in the US Air Force Air Training Command in Army Primary Flight Training. One of the highlights of his life and source of many stories was his time as a helicopter pilot, including his time as a test pilot, where he met and flew with many of the early US astronauts. In the early 1960’s, he flew helicopters in Korea during the Vietnam War including flying Bobbie Kennedy near the DMZ. After his active-duty service, Bill served in the US Army Reserves, where he achieved the rank of Captain before his retirement. After his full-time military service, he worked for private defense contractors, attended the US War College, earned his master’s degree and worked for the US Department of Defense in Operations Management.

He and his wife Bobbie resided in many parts of the US with their four children including a number of military bases such as Springfield VA, Lewiston NY, Slidell LA and Davidsonville MD. In their later years, they moved to Audubon PA, near their son Dave’s family.

A proud US Army veteran, Bill finished his career working for the US Department of Defense retiring in 1991. In retirement, Bill and Bobbie were active in their senior center in Davidsonville, Maryland where they won metals playing badminton in the Senior Olympics. Bill and Bobbie also enjoyed traveling the world, going to many places including Southeast Asia, the Soviet Union, Australia, China, and Mexico as well as visiting and traveling with their children and grandchildren in the US.

Predeceased by his wife, Roberta “Bobbie”, two sons, David “Dave” and Douglas “Doug” and three brothers, Frank, Walt, and Carl; Bill is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Elaine Pohlman; his daughter and son- in-law, Debbie and Rand Barbano; his daughter-in-law, Ginger Pohlman; his grandchildren and their partners, Amy Bernhardt (Ricky), Tracy Maugeri (Bill), Josh Pohlman (Jessica), Ben Pohlman (Stevi), Michael Pohlman (Kate McInerney-Rowley), Philip Pohlman (Payton), Kristin Brosious (Matt), Julia Pisciella (Tony), Laura White (Chris), Christy Wuest (Michael), and Chesirae Barbano; his 20 great grandchildren (to date): Madison and Bryce Bernhardt; Brooke, Chase, and Olivia Maugeri; Claire and Colin Pohlman; Elijah, Ivory and Holly Pohlman; Rowan and Everest Pohlman; Mac Pohlman-Rowley; Cameron Brosios; Avery and Aiden Pisciella; Jamison and Weston White: and Asher and Austin Wuest, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Burial with military honors will be held in West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala-Cynwyd, PA.
