Margaret "Peggy" M. O'Neill

Margaret “Peggy” O’Neill, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2026, at the age of 91, after a long and beautiful life filled with faith, family, laughter, and so much love. Born and raised in Jersey City, Peggy later moved to Metuchen, NJ, in the 70s, where she and her late husband, John Matas Sr., raised their family. She eventually settled into her beloved home in Lawrenceville and became a devoted member of the Church of Saint Ann.

Peggy loved bowling, singing and laughing with her friends, garage sales, fashion, decorating her home, cooking, and, of course, her sweets. She was incredibly proud of her Irish heritage and was a lifelong dog lover. Over the years, Rags, Cindy, Katie, Rosie and Babycakes, each held a special place in her heart. Above all, Peggy loved being a mother and grandmother and treasured the time she spent with her family.

Peggy was the daughter of the late Francis and Margaret O’Neill. She was predeceased by her brother, Charles O’Neill; her sister, Catherine D. Pyne. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Michelle Matas; her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Jonathan Rudin; her grandchildren, Samantha (Chris), Jessica (Evan), Katherine (Cam), Matthew, Kelsey, and Emily; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved her dearly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 14th at 11 am at the Church of Saint Ann, 1253 Lawrenceville Road, Lawrenceville. Friends and loved ones are invited to gather with the family before Mass for a visitation with the family from 10 am - 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Peggy’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or at www.stjude.org.

Arrangements made under the direction of Peppler Funeral Home, Allentown.
