William P. Portrude, 85, of East Windsor, passed away Monday, March 3, 2014 at his home.
Born in Shanghai China, he moved to the US in 1940 and was a resident of East Windsor for 44 years.
A graduate of both the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, he was a theater and television actor.
Later in life, Bill was involved in advertising and printing.
He was an entrepreneur, starting Harwill Express Press in Hightstown (now in Lawrence), from which he retired.
Bill was active with the Princeton Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Quick Printers (NAQP) and was a member of the Board of Directors of both organizations. He was also a member of the Princeton Corridor Rotary Club. Bill enjoyed traveling with his wife and going to Englishtown Flea Market.
He is the son of the late William M. and Melba H. Portrude; he is survived by his wife of 57 years, Harriett F. Portrude; a daughter and son-in-law, Christina P. and Mark W. Ravera of Chatham; a son, Steven Portrude of East Windsor; three grandchildren, Alexander Ravera of New York City and Nicole and Katherine Portrude of East Windsor; two cousins, Jody Watton and Suzie Feeney, both of New Zealand, as well as his dedicated caregiver, Andrews Baah Amponsah.
A celebration of Bill's life will be held on Friday, March 7
th
at the Cranbury Inn, 21 S. Main St., Cranbury.
In lieu of flower, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Peppler Funeral Home, Allentown.
