William M. Gladney Jr., 95, of Allentown, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Arcadia Nursing Home in Hamilton. Born in Trenton, William was a graduate of Hamilton High School class of 1935. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1935 to 1939, on the battleship USS Maryland and the submarine USS S-47 and served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942 to 1945 on the Cutters Dow and Cuyahoga. He retired from Yates Industries Inc. in 1981 and was an Elder of Allentown Presbyterian Church where he served 2 terms on the Board of Trustees. William was also a lifetime member of the Waretown Historical Society.
Predeceased by his first wife Marion R. Stackhouse; a daughter, Patricia Jemison; a brother, Robert Gladney and sisters Barbara Hauser and Patricia Reavis, William is survived by his wife, Jean M. Gladney; a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Jan Schoneman of Holt, MI; a son William Dean Gladney of Merchantville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Joan Gladney of Tullahoma, TN and Harry and Roberta Gladney of Lawrenceville; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Joan Harle of Clearwater, FL and Diana and August Reynolds of SC; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; his stepchildren, Bonnie and Alex Burns of Princeton Junct., Judith and Bruce Gollnick of Middletown, Art and Joan West of Allentown, Bob and Cathy West of Fresno, CA and Carol and Donald Wood of Allentown; 11 step grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 2pm Sunday, March 17 th at the Allentown Presbyterian Church, 20 High St. Allentown. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Allentown First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 252, Allentown, NJ 08501. Arrangements under the direction of Peppler Funeral Home, Allentown.
