Obituary

William H. Foggin of Allentown passed away Thursday at St. Barnabas Hospice, Long Branch. Born in West Brighton, Staten Island, he resided in Toms River for 23 years before moving to Allentown one year ago.

A graduate of Curtis High School in Staten Island, Mr. Foggin was employed as an Inland Mate and worked his way up to Captain of the Staten Island Ferry, Bureau of Ferries, City of New York. He retired from the Department of Marine and Aviation, Transportation Administration in January, 1981. Mr. Foggin was affiliated with the United Marine Division of the International Longshoremen Association, Local #333, AFL-CIO and the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association (MEBA). A WWII US Veteran, he served as a Technical Sergeant with the Army Medical Corp. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star, the Medical Combat Badge and three Battle Stars. He was attached to the 5332nd Brigade of the Mars Task Force and served in Iceland, China, Burma and India.

Mr. Foggin was a former member of the Park Baptist Church and St. Roch R.C Church where he also served as vice president of its Holy Name Society. He was a former third degree F&A Mason of the Richmond Lodge and Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Staten Island. The past president of the Decker Avenue Civic Association, Inc, he served as treasure of the Civic Congress of Staten Island, was a District Captain for the Democratic Party, where he worked under Congressman John M. Murphy (D-NY) and was a former member of the North Shore Democratic Club.
Mr. Foggin was a descendant of a very old Staten Island and Manhattan family; he was the son of Edward C. Foggin and the great grandson of Thomas Foggin, the latter served in the Big 6 Company, Manhattan and Engine Company No. 3, Port Richmond V.F.D.N.Y.

He loved his family, friends, the New York Harbor, the NY Yankees and the Staten Island Ferry. He will be missed by all.
Son of the late Edward and Anna Foggin, he is survived by his wife of 56 years, Adele; two children and their spouses, Ward E. and Elizabeth Kenny-Foggin of Tinton Falls, NJ and Mary Ann and Christian Salvatore of Allentown, NJ; four grandchildren, Maura and Caitlin Foggin and Stephen and Michael Salvatore; a sister Edna Cirignano of Staten Island and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday 11am at St. John's Church, 1282 Yardville Rd., Allentown, NJ. The Rev. Patrick Castles will officiate. Friends may call Sunday 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St. Allentown, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New York Firefighters Burn Center Foundation, 21 Asch Loop, Bronx, NY 10475.
