Wendell Joseph Smith ""Smitty"", 74, of Allentown, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  Born in West Point, NY, he was raised in Washingtonville, NY prior to residing in Allentown for 47 years.  A US veteran, serving for 8 years in the Air Force, Smitty retired as an administrative assistant with IBM in Dayton and Princeton after 25 years of service and worked for Meadow Lakes security; US Security; and BJ's loss prevention.  Smitty was a member and former Post Commander of the American Legion Post #530 of Robbinsville; a 23 year member of the Union AME Church of Allentown, where he was a trustee and choir member; and was a past member of the Allentown Fire Company and Special Police.

Son of the late Joseph J. and Evelyn Payne Smith and father of the late Sherri Smith, Wendell is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Brenda Turner Smith, four children, Karen Thompson and her husband Terry, of Raleigh, NC, Darryn Smith and his wife Cassandra, of Allentown, Deneen Turner Delgado of Delran and Derrik Joseph Smith and his wife Maria, of Browns Mills; a sister and brother-in-law Adele and Charles Bowler of Las Vegas, NV; a sister-in-law Rev. Alana Turner-Porter and her husband William of Roosevelt; 10 granddaughters; 5 grandsons; 11 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held 11 am on Saturday, March 9 ^th at the Union AME Church, 72 Church St, Allentown, NJ.  Interment will be private.  Friends may call 9am until time of service at the church.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the American Cancer Society, 2600 U.S. Highway 1, North Brunswick, NJ 08902-4326.
