Obituary

Vernon Welch, 91, of Mercerville, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2023 in Princeton Hospital. Born in Trenton, he was a graduate of Hamilton High School and was a US Army Veteran, serving as a medic in the US Army during the Korean War.   Vernon worked for Congoleum Corporation in Trenton for several years, later working as a lineman for Bell Telephone and retiring as a Supervisor from AT&T.

Vernon had fond memories of his childhood summers spent in Long Beach Island. His love of LBI, the beach, and the water grew throughout his life as he continued to spend time at the beach and many hours on his boat on the Barnegat Bay.  A member of Chesterfield Baptist Church and Gothic Fraternal Lodge No. 270 F&AM, Vernon enjoyed camping and traveling, visiting almost every state in the US.

A dedicated family man, he loved people and enjoying life.  He was an amazing and patient caregiver, teacher, and mentor, willing to help anyone who needed him. He had the ability to make friends wherever he went and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Predeceased by his parents, Charles and Laura Welch and by his siblings, Frank, Charles, Margaret, Jeanette, and Rachel; he was predeceased in August by his loving wife of 70 years, Faye R. Welch.  Vernon is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Verna Lynne and Richard Dickson, Cathy and Andy Beal, and Karen and Neil Collins; his grandchildren, Heather, Courtney, and Kevin Dickson, Kenny Beal and his wife Larissa, Christine Beal, Danielle Fiorenza and her husband Drew, and Shannon Stevenson and her husband George; his great grandchildren, Sophia, Ewan, Oliver, Henry, Collins, Hattie, and George, III; his longtime friends, Carol and Charles Howell and Barbara Ford, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family.

A viewing will be held Thursday, January 19 th from 6-8pm at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St. Allentown.  Funeral Service will be held 10am on Friday at Chesterfield Baptist Church, 209 Matthews Lane, Chesterfield, NJ.  Interment will follow in North Crosswicks Cemetery, Hamilton.
