Vernette Laverne Richburg, 76, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 22, 2023, at her home in Ocean Township with her family by her side. Born in Miami, FL, she lived in Clarksburg, NJ before moving to Ocean Township. She was a graduate of Allentown High School, received her Bachelor's degree from Monmouth University and her Master's degree from Seton Hall. Vernette retired from the State of NJ, Department of Labor as a Chief in Field Services after 38 years. She also owned and operated R & R Ribs in Asbury Park, NJ and Cruise Crafters Travel in Ocean Township, NJ. She was a past member of the Union AME Church of Allentown and the Acts Gospel Church of Hightstown. She was a present member of the Allen Chapel AME of Asbury Park, NJ. and was a member of the NJ Chapter of the Jack and Jill Club. Vernette loved to travel and was an avid sports fan which included the Pittsburg Steelers, The New York Knicks, and the Miami Heat. She also enjoyed music and reading, she will be deeply missed.

Predeceased by her parents John and Jeanette Johnson & Cynthia Parks-Alexander, her siblings; John E. Johnson Jr, Mercedes Johnson, Captola Bowling, and Sylvia Holmes, she is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, James Richburg; her son, Gregory Richburg and her daughters, Cynthia Richburg-Moore and Crystal Alexander-Wilson (Stewart); her siblings, Moses Alexander (Diane), Judy Jiles, Rufus Alexander (Michele), Inez Coleman (Bruce), Ethel Clegg (Douglas) and Robert Alexander (Rene); her grandchildren, Lyric Richburg, Khalil Moore, Tahsym Richburg, Treasure Richburg and Janiyah Moore; her brothers-in-law, Bernard Holmes, Charlie Richbow, Rash Richbow (Adele), Mckinley Richbow; her sisters-in-law, Amanda Mercer, Marie Johnson; her special cousins, Ricky, Lamell & Cormelis Lattimore and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Friday January 5th at the Allentown United Methodist Church, 23 Church Street, Allentown, NJ. A viewing will be held 9:00 to 10:30 AM at the church. Interment will follow in Allentown Methodist Cemetery.   Arrangements under the direction of Peppler Funeral Home, Allentown.
