George Tutek Jr., 92, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Robert Wood Johnson, Hamilton. Born in Monessen, PA, he was a resident of Columbus since 1952. A World War II Veteran, serving in both the Army and Navy, George was a First Class Petty Officer on the USS South Dakota and served in the Battle of Santa Cruz Islands and the Battle of Guadalcanal. He was a local farmer and owned and operated George's Produce for over 50 years. He also worked for NADE auto auction for ten years and retired from Westinghouse after 30 years of service. George was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Jobstown. He was an avid reader, especially of History and War related books and held a private pilot's license.
Son of the late, George and Mary Tutek; he was predeceased by his siblings, Helen O'Connor, Annabel Bates, John Tutek and Mary Morrison. George is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joyce Tutek; his children, George Tutek and his wife Phyllis of Allentown, Sandra Misshula and her husband Elliot of Manchester, NH and Darren Tutek of Phoenix, AZ; a brother, Henry Tutek of Bordentown; a sister-in-law, Rose Hendrie as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1pm on Monday, March 25, 2013 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Jobstown. Interment will follow in BG William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 10am to 12pm at the Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks Street, Bordentown. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be to St. Andrew's Church Building Fund, PO Box 277, Jobstown, NJ 08041.
