Obituary

Thomas E. Van Horn, 80, of Mount Holly, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family. Born in Philadelphia to the late W. Edward and Dorothy Van Horn, he grew up in New Egypt, graduating from Allentown High School. Tom and his family resided in Robbinsville for many years where he was an active member of St. Gregory the Great Parish. He and his family recently moved to Mount Holly in 2023.

Tom loved adventure and traveled all over the United States, taking extended road trips to visit the western US and many of the National Parks. He loved camping and exploring with his family. He was an avid history buff, reader, and loyal fan to all Philly sports teams.

A veteran serving in the US Coast Guard, Tom worked as a testing technician for RCA (later Lockheed Martin), retiring in 1999 to begin his biggest adventure yet of becoming a fulltime stay at home Dad.

Tom lived the life of a bachelor until the age of 45 when he met the love of his life, Barb. They married in 1989 and started their family. Tom was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Tom Scudder.  He is survived by his loving wife, Barb, beloved children, Chris Van Horn of Sheridan, WY and Kate Van Horn of Mt Holly; his granddaughter whom he adored, Charlee; he was the beloved uncle to Matthew Scudder of Hamilton and Amanda McElwain of Wrightstown and their families. Tom is also survived by many other extended family and friends.

A visitation with the family will be held Sunday November 10th from 3 to 6 pm at Peppler Funeral Home, 114 So. Main St., Allentown.  A memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, November 12th at 10am at St. Gregory the Great Church 4620 Nottingham Way, Hamilton. Inurnment will be private at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Tom's name to St. Gregory the Great Parish, 4620 Nottingham Way, Trenton, NJ 08690 or to the World Wildlife Fund, 1250 24th St. NW, Washington, DC 20037 or at www.worldwildlife.org
