Sylvio E. Bertagni, 92, of Allentown, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2011 at his home. Born in Ellisdale, he was a lifetime Allentown resident, a place he was very proud to live. A graduate of Allentown High School, Sylvio retired as Post Master of Allentown Post Office in 1982. He was a 57 year member of the Allentown Presbyterian Church where he also served as Sexton. He was a former member and past president of the Allentown Lions Club, former Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop #180 and a former Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball coach. In 1963 he joined the Allentown First Aid Squad and later served as President, Captain and a CPR and EMT instructor.
Son of the late Angelo and Elizabeth Bertagni, he was predeceased by two sons, Greg and Dan Bertagni and five sisters, Anita and Mary Bertagni, Olga Trupo, Italia DeVos and Velia Dyer. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Ruth Smith Bertagni; a son, John Joseph Bertagni; a sister, Victoria Johnson and her husband William as well as nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, Sept 11 th at 1pm at the Allentown Presbyterian Church, 20 High Street Allentown. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Allentown First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 252 Allentown, NJ 08501. Arrangements under the direction of Peppler Funeral Home.
