Obituary

Stella Kozlowski Synnott was the eighth of ten children born to Lithuanian immigrants Peter and Sophie Kozlowski in Torrington, Connecticut. She grew up on the family farm in Torrington, enjoying hunting for mushrooms and blueberries with her mother and learning how to take care of animals from her father. Raised a devout Catholic, her faith sustained her throughout her life. She was very beautiful and enjoyed going to dances with her friends and singing with her sisters.

A thoroughly devoted mother, Stella had one child, a daughter named Dianne, and that completed her. When Dianne was twelve, Stella found herself a single mother after a divorce. At a time when women were not encouraged, trained or expected to work outside of the home, she worked steadfastly to shape a life for herself and her daughter. She took a job in the Stanley Tools Division at The Stanley Works, working the second shift because the pay was higher and would provide a better life for her daughter. Stella worked the night shift at Stanley Works for 30 years before retiring to spend time with her beloved companions, her dogs: Ginger and later, Missy-Molly.

She enjoyed meeting friends for breakfast and traveling with Dianne and her granddaughters, Caitlyn and Laura, to destinations such as Hawaii, Amsterdam, Paris, Switzerland, Disney World, St. Croix, and Bermuda. To the end, she demonstrated at will a cheeky, sassy, outspoken manner. Her indomitable spirit was passed on to Dianne, and thus to her granddaughters as well. She taught them to persevere, be independent and stand strong.

Stella is survived by Dianne and her son-in-law, Richard Kelly; her granddaughters, Caitlyn and Laura; her sister, Bonnie Blouin and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Peter and Sophie; her sisters, Mary, Emma, Connie, and Nellie and her brothers, Felix, Zigmond, Raphael and Frank.

Stella inherited her parents' fighting spirit. She was a strong woman, a consummate survivor, and will be missed deeply by those who love her.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 pm on Monday, September 16th at St. Francis Cemetery, 863 S Main St. Torrington, CT. Arrangements are under the direction of Peppler Funeral Home, Allentown, New Jersey.
