Obituary

Shirley H. Outtrim joined her lord on March 21, 2019 from Bethlehem, PA.

Born in Trenton in 1924 Shirley was the daughter of the late Carlton W. Haines and late Gladys B. (Haines) Woolley of Bordentown, NJ. Shirley lived most of her life in Bordentown. She grew up on Prince Street, graduated from Bordentown Regional High School, belonged to the 1st Presbyterian Church of Bordentown, and worked at the Bordentown Peoples Savings and Loan Association until she married the late Rev. William B. Outtrim.  She and her husband settled in Pemberton Township, NJ where they raise their two children, Deborah and the late J. David Outtrim. Shirley was also an English teacher at the Pemberton Township High School II.  After retiring she moved to Tampa, FL for a few years then she moved back to Bordentown and lived with her aunt, the late Charlotte B. Daley, and belonged to the Christ Church Parish in Bordentown. Only recently, she moved to Bethlehem, PA to live in the Alexandria Manor.

Shirley is a graduate of Rider University and The College of NJ. She was a dedicated high school English teacher, a deeply devoted mother, a loving wife, and true friend to many.  She loved to read, especially English literature, and to inspire others to develop the joy of reading. Shirley also enjoyed writing letters to her local newspaper editors, friends, and family members.  She maintained a pen pal relationship with a friend in Belgium for over 60 years .

Shirley was one of the kindest, honest most sincere people this world has known.  She loved all animals, children, and elderly and cared for each with endless patience and compassion.  She treated everyone with respect and understanding and never lied to anyone about anything, not even while negotiating a deal with a car salesman!  Her presence will be missed deeply, but her memory will continue to inspire.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Deborah, four grandchildren: Aaron, Bryden, Katie, and Megan, son-in-law Scott, daughter-in-law Elissa, nephews Robert (Mary) and Richard, niece Carol (Tom), numerous grand nieces and nephews and many kind and loving friends.

A Requiem Mass will be celebrated 11 am Saturday, March 30 at Christ Episcopal Church, Prince St, Bordentown, NJ. Friends may call Saturday morning 9:30 am to 10:30 am at the Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks St, Bordentown, NJ. Interment will follow in Bordentown Cemetery, Bordentown Township, NJ.
