Shirley Mayer, 88, of Cream Ridge, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022. Born and raised in Ewing Township, NJ, she and her husband, Miles Mayer, moved to Allentown in 1959 where they enjoyed many happy years as active members of the Allentown United Methodist Church and Hope Fire Company, and where they made many life-long friends. She was employed for many years as the Secretary to the Board of Education in Washington Township, but her true vocation was her family. Shirley strove tirelessly to keep them close, hosting family gatherings throughout the year and always being available for whatever activity or event that was on the calendar. Nothing brought her more pride and joy than the relationships she had with her grandchildren, and the arrival of her great grandchildren added to that joy immeasurably.

She is survived by her two daughters and son-in-law, Linda VanHandel, Pamela Mayer-Strobino and David Strobino, as well as four much-beloved grandchildren, Lauren (nee Strobino) and Kevin Loflin and their children Reagan and Walter, Olivia (nee VanHandel) and Casey Caldwell, Zachary Strobino and partner Michael LoStocco, and Rose (nee VanHandel) and Zachary Goodwin and their daughter, Beatrice. She also leaves behind many devoted friends who were there to provide friendship and comfort after her husband's passing; among them is James Sturgis, a long-time family friend who contributed greatly to her safety and wellbeing during those years. They were, and are, greatly appreciated by Shirley and her family.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 1 ^st from 10-12pm with a funeral service to begin at 12pm at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St. Allentown. Interment will follow in Allentown United Methodist Cemetery, Allentown.
