Obituary

Shirley P. Hammell (nee Platt), 87, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side. Born and raised in Bordentown City Shirley graduated from McFarland High School in 1951 and went on to receive a degree from Rider College.  Following graduation she started a position at PSE&G Burlington Generating Station as an Administrative Assistant which is  where she met the Love of her Life  Marty.  They were married in 1954 and moved to his hometown of Beverly.  She lived with Marty's family until the house they built together was finished and then moved in and made it a home in 1958.

Shirley was very committed to raising her loving family. Shirley was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Beverly, where she served as the treasurer and a deacon. She enjoyed bowling in the Monday Night Ladies League.  Shirley was a loving mother and friend.  She adored and cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was the kindest and caring person to everyone and loved to laugh.  She enjoyed bird watching and loved all animals especially dogs.  Along with her sister Cissie,  Shirley joined The Red Hat Society of Bordentown 15 years ago and was able to reconnect with the Gals from her childhood.  Shirley will be missed by all.

Predeceased by her parents; C. Carlin and Irene Platt (Fenton), her husband W. Martin (Marty) Hammell, her brother Vern Platt and her sister Cissie Erickson. Shirley is survived by her son;  Lance Hammell & wife Winnie of Dennisville, NJ and her daughter; Lydia and husband Jesus Alvarez of Moorestown, NJ. She is also survived by her grandchildren; David (Ikuko) Hammell, Kelsey (Derrick) Hafele, Marti (Greg) Maxwell, M. Brett Alvarez, Olivia Alvarez and Noah Alvarez as well as her great grandchildren; Allie Maxwell,  Mako Martin Maxwell, and Emma Rose Hafele.

Due to covid restrictions a memorial service for Shirley will be held at The First Baptist Church of Beverly for the immediate family only.  Following the church service a Celebration of Life for family and friends, will be held  with the place and time to be announced.  Funeral Services are under the direction of Peppler Funeral Home, Bordentown.
