Shirley recently transitioned to her eternal resting place, on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, passing peacefully into the arms of her Lord while surrounded by her two sons, after a long courageous battle with leukemia.
Shirley was born on June 2, 1934 in the Village of Groveville, within Hamilton Township. She was a life long resident of Groveville residing at 3 different addresses on Main Street. She was predeceased by her father Olin Wright, mother, Mary Stackhouse Wright, a brother Olin Mickey Wright and her sister, Janet Bleasdale.
Shirley lived for her family and is survived by two sons, Mark Cubberley of Groveville and Eric Cubberley of Lawrenceville, as well as her three granddaughters; Alexis Cubberley, Courtney Cubberley and Camryn Cubberley. She is also survived by her brother Barry Wright and his wife Sherry of Cream Ridge, a sister-in-law, Joanne Wright of Leavenworth Kansas and a brother-in-law Wayne Bleasdale of Hamilton. Shirley's surviving nieces and nephews include, Greg Wright, Dennis Wright, Joe Wright, Commander Virgil S. Wright, Sue Wright, Cindy Kolczinski, Sharon Procaccini, Roseanne Palmieri, Nancy Briggs, David Cubberley, Les Cubberley, Dale Wilson and her namesake Shirley Ann Wilson Corino.
Shirley attended Groveville and Yardville schools, graduated from Hamilton High West in 1952 and studied accounting and finance at Mercer County Community College. She worked for General Motors, and was employed by the Hamilton Township Board of Education for 38 years. Shirley started her employment with the Hamilton School System at Groveville School and worked at Hamilton High West for many years prior to transferring to the Board Administration office and retiring in 2002 from its payroll office. She was active with the PTA, NJEA and with the HTEA as a union vice president. Shirley was also proud to be a longtime Hamilton Township Democratic Committeewoman.
Shirley enjoyed travelling and her friendships at the Hamilton Senior Center, especially her good friend Dolly Chipman. She was also a voracious reader and music lover. She was a 72 year member of the Groveville United Methodist Church where she was a choir member for many years. Shirley was quintessentially Groveville and proud of it. She affectionately referred to herself as the "Mayor of Groveville". Shirley acquired many friends from all walks of life and loved to tell a story to all of them.
Shirley viewed her greatest accomplishment as raising her two sons as a single parent. Shirley's family was her purpose in life. She adored her sons and her three granddaughters were the love of her life. She reveled in all of their academic, athletic, singing and dancing successes and was often heard as a vocal supporter.
Shirley's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all of her many dedicated caregivers that assisted throughout her long battle. Special thanks are extended to Dr. Michael Millenson and Dr. Steven Breecker, their nurses and staffs, at Fox Chase Cancer Center, and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital for the exceptional dedication and professionalism they exhibited in caring for Shirley through the years.
Visitation will be held at the Groveville United Methodist Church, 454 Church St. Groveville NJ 08620, from 6 to 9 pm, Friday, September 7, 2018 and 10 – 11 AM Saturday at the church. A service celebrating Shirley's life will follow at the church at 11 am Saturday, September 8. Internment will follow at the Groveville Methodist Cemetery. Arrangements are being conducted by Peppler Funeral Home, Bordentown.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Groveville United Methodist Church in Shirley's memory.
