Obituary

Samuel J. Shuren, 85, of Whiting, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2011, at Whiting Healthcare Center.  Born in Hightstown, he was a resident of Penns Neck, NJ for 40 years before moving to Whiting in 1996.  A WWII Navy veteran, Samuel retired from Suburban Propane in 1991, after 33 years of service.  He was very active and enjoyed horseshoe pitching, quoits, bowling and playing tennis.  Samuel also loved to fish and was an avid sports fan.  He was especially passionate for the NY Giants, the San Francisco Giants and the West Virginia University Mountaineers.

Samuel was predeceased by his beloved wife of 56 years, Georgianna Spacek Shuren and his two brothers, Stephen and John Shuren.  He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Jane Shuren of Hamilton; his sister, Ann Fields of Hammonton; his nephew and close friend, Bob Fields and his wife Joyce of Whiting; a sister-in-law, Margaret Spacek of Vance, AL; a special niece, Cathy Shuren as well as many other nieces and nephews.

Samuel had a special quality about him. Everyone who knew him immediately loved him.  Samuel will be deeply missed by his family and his many friends.

Funeral service will be held 12:30pm on Wednesday, May 11 th at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St. Allentown.  Friends may call Wednesday, 10:30am until the time of service. Interment will follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to C.A.R.E.S, Schoolhouse Rd., Whiting, NJ 08759 or to St. Jude Children's Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN  38148.
