Samuel Cary Morris Jr., 92, died Thursday at the Masonic Home of New Jersey, in Burlington. Born in Montgomery, Alabama, he moved to Denville, NJ when he was very young. He married and raised six children in Denville, before moving to Richmond Hill, GA., in 1987 and later to the Masonic Home in 2001.
Samuel was a Master Mason and member of Jephthah Lodge #233 F.& A.M. He was a WWII veteran and a Major in the Army. Before the War he was in the CCC's and worked as a lumber-jack in the Olympic peninsula. He owned and operated Morris Tile Co. in the 50's and 60's and then worked as a stationary engineer until his retirement. He also worked part time writing for the newspaper in Richmond Hill.
Father of the late Bonnie Reissner and brother of the late Annella and Evelyn, he is survived by his wife of 67 years, Roberta, 4 sons; Samuel 3rd, Michael, Robin and Morgan, a daughter; Holly Beach, 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 3 brothers; Herb, Robert and Orr and 3 sisters: Joy, Dorothy and Olive.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated, Tuesday 3 pm at the Masonic Home Chapel, 902 Jacksonville Rd., Burlington. The viewing will be from 10 am until 12 noon at the Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks St., Bordentown. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Masonic Charity Foundation of New Jersey, 902 Jacksonville Rd., Burlington, NJ 08016
