Ruth Mulvey (nee Dougherty) left this earthly life on Saturday, February 10, 2018. She was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Ruth's love for horses began when she was little. Each summer her large family would head to the Catskills to visit their grandparents; she would ride Candy or Champ, horses that belonged to her childhood friend.
Ruth went on to study animal science at the University of Massachusetts and became a certified veterinary technician. During the early years of her career she worked directly with horses, and then moved on to work as a scientist in a variety of pharmaceutical companies.
Ruth was a unique woman of faith. She was perpetually grateful that she met Robert, the love of her life, and found true happiness with him. Ruth threw herself into life with all she had. She enjoyed competitive carriage driving, but always seemed thrilled with the events no matter how she placed. Lately she'd spent endless hours in obedience classes training her dog, Frolic. She'd joyfully put him through his paces for visitors. He'd do so much for a little treat and her abundant praise. Ruth and Robert took pleasure in traveling to Europe and through much of the US…her travel planning skills are second only to Rick Steves. She loved her family deeply and the many close friends she made on her journey through life.
Ruth's optimism, zest for life, and her amazing listening skills made her a joy to be around. She will be sorely missed by friends and family.
Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Ruth Dougherty. She is survived by her husband Robert, her special Uncle Doc and Aunt Joan, her siblings Mike Dougherty, Kathleen MacDonnell, Mary Taylor, John Dougherty, Bet Savich, Jim Dougherty, as well as many in-laws. Aunt Ruth also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who have admired, loved, and enjoyed her over the years.
