Born May 12, 1919 to George B. and Anna Meirs Holmes, she lived the majority of her life on the road named for her father's mill. Family and local history were of great interest to her. In 2001 she co-wrote "Twixt Crosswicks Creek and Burlington Path" with her son George. She was also a member of the Allentown Presbyterian Church and the Albright 50+ Club.

Ruth was a graduate of Allentown High School, attended Wilson College and graduated from Albright College, where she met her future husband, Harold. They married at the beginning of World War II. After he returned from the war, they lived in Lebanon, PA for about seven years, before returning to Cream Ridge. She substitute taught at Allentown High School and tutored many local children in math. Her family will never enjoy coffee ice cream without thinking of her.
