IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rosalind F.
Ferrell
March 21, 1939 – May 19, 2023
Rosalind Frances (Braunstein) Ferrell was born in Newark, NJ on March 21, 1939. Roz, as she was known to family and friends, spent the majority of her life in New Jersey, only moving to Delaware in 2018. She attended the Newark school system and graduated from West Side High School. Roz received her BA from Newark State College (later renamed Kean University) in 1961.
Roz was employed by the U.S. Post Office (where she met her future husband) and the East Orange Public Library. After almost 29 years of service, she retired from her position as Supervising Library Assistant. For many years, Roz loved to work the election polls. She took great joy and pride in this service. Roz also loved to get together with a special group of friends, the late Patricia Elsman, Barbara Fay, Sally Rice, and Ilene and Jeff Ralsky. They would get together once a month to see a play at the First Avenue Playhouse and then enjoy each other's company at dinner. This core group were friends for many years and made a point of staying in touch and getting together when Roz moved to Delaware and their love and friendship meant a great deal to her.
During Roz's few years at Forwood Manor's retirement community in Wilmington, DE she also had a core group of friends. They all sat at the same table for meals and discussed everything from A-Z. Two of Roz's favorite activities at Forwood were Rummikub and Bingo. Not only did she enjoy playing Bingo, but she also enjoyed being the caller every now and then and some of the other residents particularly liked when she was the caller. Roz also loved watching figure skating competitions, particularly the Olympics. Some of her other favorite pastimes were reading, crossword puzzles, and playing games, particularly solitaire, on her Kindle. Her favorite color was purple, and she absolutely loved dogs.
Although Roz professed to be shy, she made friends easily and was well liked by many. Family meant a great deal to her. She always provided support and love for her family and friends. Her generosity, kindness, and sweet nature will always be remembered.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben Ferrell, Jr., her son, Reuben Thomas Ferrell, her parents, Milton and Mary Wolff Braunstein, and her brother, Stuart Michael Braunstein.
Roz leaves to mourn her four children Marc Ferrell, Traci Ferrell Frank (Joseph L. Frank, Jr.), Sharon Regan, and Victor Ferrell (Vibeke Ferrell), twelve grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
