Robert G. Schmitz, 83, passed away Friday, June 21, 2013 at Compassionate Care Hospice in Trenton. Born and raised in Westfield, NJ, he resided in Brick, NJ and Stuart, FL, prior to moving to Allentown, NJ, 8 years ago. Robert was a graduate of Westfield High School, a proud member of its Football Hall of Fame and later attended and played football at the University of South Carolina.  Robert owned and operated Westfield Marine in Westfield for 25 years and was a member of the US Naval Reserves. He was an avid sailor and was one of the founding members of the Metedeconk River Yacht Club in Brick, NJ.

Brother of the late Herman Schmitz, he is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Patricia Jaekel Schmitz; his two sons and daughter-in-law, Peter and Lynn Schmitz of Allentown and Robert J. Schmitz Jr. of Brick Township; eight grandchildren, Lauren, Logan, Lindsay, Ryan, Amy, Anthony, Michael and Alisa as well as many nieces.

A private memorial service celebrating Robert's life will be held at Peppler Funeral Home of Allentown, NJ.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Robert's name to:  Compassionate Care Hospice, St. Francis Medical Center, 601 Hamilton Ave., Trenton, NJ 08629.
