IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Durling
Savacool
January 21, 1937 – April 8, 2021
Robert Durling Savacool , "Bob", "GrandBob", passed away on the morning of April 8th, beside his wife Alice, and two daughters, Tiffanie and Robyn. Throughout his life he made friends easily and enjoyed having a good laugh. He is loved, missed and will always bring wonderful memories to mind.
Born in 1937, he was the second son to Milliard and Dorothy Savacool. They raised Richard "Dick" and Bob in East Orange and later moved to Bayhead, NJ where they owned the General Store that Bob worked at while he was in highschool. At 18, Bob joined the Marines and later would tell stories to his daughters about the 100 jumps he took out of planes, when he almost escaped the POW training simulation and the time he spent in the Mediteranean Sea on an aircraft carrier. After seven years in the service, upon returning home, he attended Monmouth University for two years.
He met Alice, "Toots", Desmond in 1975 through friends at a party in Manasquan, NJ. He wooed her with his outgoing personality, sense of humour, adventurousness and crazy dance moves. They married in 1979 and moved to Yardville, NJ in 1983. Bob and Alice enjoyed Saturday afternoon movies, traveling, spending time at the beach, watching Tiffanie and Robyn play soccer and entertaining their friends and family at their infamous pool parties that could occasionally get out of hand due to the competitive volleyball tournaments. In Yardville, Bob taught his daughters his crazy dance moves, karate skills and a million lessons about how to march to the beat of your own drum.
A great sense of joy was brought into his life when he became a GrandBob . Brayden, Landon and Quinn introduced a new audience for his jokes and he was described by Quinn as one of the two funniest people she knows (Mommy being the other). He loved them all deeply and took great pride in watching their school events, football games, dance recitals and having them come visit just to spend time with him.
The first business Bob started was a collection agency that he ran for 20 years. His earliest job at his parent's general store inspired his second business, BCool Construction, which he owned and successfully ran in Central New Jersey for 30 years. He enjoyed fixing things and there was no house problem that he didn't think he could take care of and make better. After retiring, he enjoyed spending time outside tending to the garden and the lawn, and taking care of KC, the family cat and the newest member of the family, Bella.
Loved ones that cleared the path for Bob include his father and mother Milard and Dorothy Savacool; his Brother Richard "Dick" Savacool; his uncle Dave Craig; his nephew Ricky Savacool; his mother-in-law Florence Desmond; his father-in-law Andy Desmond; his sister-in-law Pat Davis; his pets Momma Cat Savacool and Kitty Cat (KC) Savacool. Loved ones that will miss Bob are his wife Alice Savacool; his daughters Tiffanie Hawley and Robyn Savacool; his son-in-law Barry Hawley; his grandchildren Brayden and Landon Messinger and Quinn Hawley; his in-laws Christel and Jay Salera, Andrea and Barry Brown; his sister-in-law Jacqueline Savacool; his nieces Debbie, Kelley, Desiree, Jenny, Janice, Kimmy, Christa and Lynsay; and his nephews Robbie, Dan and Justin.
