Robert Hugh O'Rourke, 88, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2024 in the home he built with his wife and children in Cream Ridge, NJ.  Born in the Bronx, NY, his family subsequently moved to New Jersey where he would remain a lifelong resident.  A graduate of Bound Brook High School, he stayed connected to many of his friends from the area and in later years, especially enjoyed the frequent gatherings.  He was a veteran of the US Army where he served overseas in Germany as a Radio Operator.  After completing his service, Bob entered a lifelong civilian career working at Fort Monmouth; first as a technician and then later as an engineer after completing his Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering degree at Monmouth University.  Bob was especially proud of the work he accomplished on the Guardrail System, the Army's premiere airborne Communications Intelligence (COMINT) and Electronics Intelligence (ELINT) location system.  Aside from work and family, he also enjoyed cultivating his orchard, raising animals, fishing, and considering the mysteries of the Universe.

Son of the late Hugh and Rose O'Rourke, he was predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Kathleen and his grandson, Aiden.  Bob is survived by his children, Russell O'Rourke and his wife Michelle of Telford, PA, Alice McDowell and her husband Mark of Abington, PA, Kimberly O'Rourke and her husband Anthony Nicoletta of Tabernacle, NJ and Amy Hilburn and her husband Seth of Cream Ridge, NJ, his grandchildren, Emily, Benjamin, Morgan, Christian, Caitlin, Autumn, and Daisy as well as many other family and friends.

A visitation will be held Thursday, August 8th from 6-8pm and again Friday August 9th from 12pm -1pm at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St. Allentown.  Funeral Service will be held at 1pm on Friday at the funeral home.  Interment will follow in Cream Ridge Cemetery.
