IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert J.
Montalbano
November 14, 1969 – August 13, 2023
Robert "Robbie" Montalbano , 53, passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 13, 2023, while attending a work event in Austin, Texas. A native and lifelong resident of Northern Burlington County, NJ, Rob was a pillar of the community, in Mansfield Township, where he's resided for the past 17 years with his loving family. A graduate of Northern Burlington County Regional High School and former student of Rutgers University, Rob spent 25 years as a public servant working for the NJ Juvenile Justice Commission. Beginning in 1987 with the agency's maintenance department while he was still in high school and diligently working his way to appointment as Deputy Executive Director in 2015, Rob spent his career overseeing the agency's facilities with a commitment to improving the lives of young people in his care while ensuring the safety of the public. Rob was a gracious leader, trusted colleague, and respected mentor. He retired from state service in 2022 to fully dedicate his attention to expanding his real estate business with the Keller Williams Realty Group. Rob was an enthusiastic realtor who had a passion, not only for closing a successful deal, but for seeing his clients happy. While his love for real-estate, ambition for building both physically and professionally, and pledge to his client networks were unmatched, his priority was always his family. A true family-man, Rob is predeceased by his remembered father, Joseph Montalbano; paternal grandparents, Giovanni and Angiolina Montalbano; and maternal grandparents, Sabato and Elisa D'Archi. A devoted son, father, husband and brother, to name a few; Rob is survived by his mother, Lucy D'Archi Montalbano, who he adored and admired deeply; his biggest supporter and beloved wife of 25 years, Renee Smith Montalbano; his pride and joys, son Nicholas Robert and daughter Nina Lucia; best friend and brother, Carlo Montalbano and his wife Donna of Timberville, VA. Rob also leaves behind his in-laws, Vincent and Janice Smith of Hamilton, NJ; his sister- and brother-in-law Sherry and John Tartaglia of Hamilton, NJ; nieces and nephews, Justin, Josh and wife Veronica, Jake, Kirsten and husband Matt, Ashley and husband Nate, and John and wife Giuliana; great niece Olivia and great nephew Levi; and many more treasured aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members. Rob was a valued and loyal friend to many, some lifelong and some newly formed, but he embraced them all fully and viewed them and their families as mere extensions of his own. The bonds built and memories made with them will be forever cherished. While balancing multiple careers effortlessly and successfully, Rob made sure to make time for the things he loved. He enjoyed spending the winters skiing and the summers in Long Beach Island, spending quality time with his daughter and coaching his son's baseball team, attending other sporting events, and being surrounded by family and friends. It was in his nature to extend a helping hand, a word of objective and wise advice, or a friendly smile to anyone who crossed his path, whether that be a family member, friend, colleague, client, or a total stranger; he was full of life and of love and he lived his to the fullest. He recently said to a friend "life is short, don't waste it" and he wasn't. Rob was the hardest of workers, driven and disciplined, unwavering and consistent, and always holding high expectations; yet he was understanding and fair, compassionate, and open-minded, patient even in the midst of chaos, and he was a true party starter. His charisma and presence beamed with genuineness and humility and his positive energy was contagious. He was an idol to many and the legacies he's left are inspirational to all who knew him. There are no words to describe the void that is left in the wake of his passing. All who've been touched by Rob are invited to join in his remembrance; A eulogy will be read on Monday, August 21, 2023, at 10:45am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am at St. Mary's Church, 45 Crosswicks St., Bordentown.
