IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert P.
Matthews
February 28, 1941 – May 31, 2024
Robert "Bob" Matthews, 83, of New Egypt, New Jersey, passed away Friday, May 31, 2024. Born in Trenton, he grew up in Hamilton, and graduated from Hamilton High West in 1959. While in high school, he had a lawn business with a friend. After high school, Bob enlisted in the Army National Guard. While in the National Guard, he spent time in Oklahoma for canon training and later spent some time each summer at Camp Drum in New York. He had a passion for photography, and found a photography job at Princeton University. After attending the New York Institute of Photography, he was able to turn his passion into his vocation by working up to the head photographer at Princeton. Bob truly loved his job, as he loved photographing people, campus events, football games and other sports, as well as many science projects, especially in the Physics Department. He also worked for many other departments at the University. At the time of his retirement in 1999, he was a well-known and respected photographer on campus and in the area. He had to retire earlier than he wanted because of his disability, but he always tried to keep going. Bob and his wife Sara were long time members of St. Mark United Methodist Church in Hamilton. And they always enjoyed many road trips over the years and especially loved to go to the Jersey shore to their favorite beaches.
Son of the late Percy and Eva Matthews, he was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Emley. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Sara Matthews; his daughter Beth Ayres and stepdaughter Danelia McNeil (Bill); his stepchildren, Daryl Haney, Dawn Marrs and her husband Greg, and David Haney and his wife Adriann; his grandchildren, Kyle Ayres, Austin Marrs and his wife Katie, Brandon Marrs and his wife Taylor, Cameron Marrs, and Wyatt Haney; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 12 to 1:30pm with a funeral service beginning at 1:30pm at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St. Allentown. Interment will follow in Emley's Hill Cemetery, Cream Ridge.
