Robert (Bob) A. Mangus Jr., 68, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Trenton, Bob was a lifelong resident of Florence, New Jersey. A proud member of the Florence High School Class of 1976, he played football and basketball for the Florence Flashes before beginning a long career with the New Jersey Turnpike Authority. After retiring from the NJTPA, he became a crossing guard in Bordentown and enjoyed spending mornings and afternoons greeting the children each day as they made their way safely to and from school.
Robert enjoyed spending time at the beach, fishing, landscaping, and sharing his love of sports with others. He devoted many years to coaching his children in various sports, where he encouraged not only Lauren and Kyle, but every child who stepped onto the field. He believed in treating everyone with kindness, respect, and fairness, and he welcomed his children’s friends as though they were part of his own family.
In recent years, Bob’s greatest joy was being “Pop-Pop” to his beloved grandchildren, Jackson and Avery. He rarely missed an opportunity to cheer them on, whether watching Avery play field hockey or supporting Jackson in football and track and field. Their accomplishments brought him immeasurable pride, and there was nowhere he would rather be than on the sidelines, supporting those he loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert A. Mangus Sr. and Phyllis Mangus.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Diane Mangus; his daughter and son-in-law, Lauren and Bryan Miller of Florence; his son and daughter-in-law, Kyle and Christina Mangus of Bordentown; his cherished grandchildren, Jackson and Avery Miller; his sister, Jody Mangus and her partner Renee Ducassoux of North Carolina; his nephew and wife, Austin and Destiney Mangus; his uncle, Charles Griffiths and many extended family members and dear friends who will forever remember his loyalty, encouragement, and unwavering love for his family.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Monday, July 20, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks Street, Bordentown, New Jersey. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s memory to Florence Field Hockey Association (P.O. Box 24, Florence, NJ 08518) in honor of his grandchildren.
