Robert "Bob" Cottrell, 82, of Cream Ridge, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026, following a series of health challenges.
Born in East Orange, Robert was a graduate of Irvington High School. He attended Newark State College, now Kean University, for his undergraduate degree before earning his Master’s Degree. Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1968 to 1969 with the 23rd Military Police Company, Americal Division, during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he dedicated his career to education as an Industrial Arts teacher at Marlboro High School, where he taught drafting, woodworking, electronics, and other practical skills for many years. He was also a respected track and field coach and official, and had the opportunity to work with many young and talented athletes over the years.
Bob remained committed to serving others through his volunteer work with the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial. He was a 53 year resident of Cream Ridge, where he served on the Upper Freehold Twp. Environmental Commission for many years. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was known for his quiet strength, humility, kindness, and unwavering integrity.
Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife, Patricia Cottrell, in 2020.
He is survived by his daughter, Allison Mains and her husband, Mark; his son, Bryan Cottrell and his wife, Megan; his cherished grandchildren, Briar, Levi, Tre, and Lia; and Charlotte, whose friendship brought him happiness in his later years.
A devoted father, grandfather, veteran, educator, coach, and friend, Bob lived a life of service to his country, his students, his family, and his community. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, August 9th from 3-6pm at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St, Allentown, NJ. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 10th at 11am at the funeral home. Burial will military honors will follow in Cream Ridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Robert’s memory to the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Foundation at NJVVMF, 1 Memorial Lane, Holmdel, NJ 07733 or at NJVVMF.org
