Richard J. Alphonse , 65, passed away suddenly on Monday, July 25, 2022 at his residence in Somerset, NJ. Born in Trenton, he was raised in Hamilton and was a graduate of Steinert High School (Class of 1974). He went on to attend the University of Colorado and Rutgers Law School. Although retired for the last several years, Richard was a practicing attorney for 30 years as well as an adjunct professor at Mercer County Community College where he taught legal writing in the paralegal studies department. Often described as a character, Richard was an avid reader, was a history and Civil War buff and was enthralled with sci-fi movies and loved to travel.
Predeceased by his parents John and Angelina Alphonse and his sister, Sharon Dektor, he is survived by his children: Gina Alphonse of Ewing and Sean Alphonse of Bordentown, his former spouse Cathy Alphonse also of Bordentown, his brother and sister-in-law: John and Carol Alphonse of Hamilton and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 am Wednesday, August 3 at Mary, Mother of the Church, 45 Crosswicks St, Bordentown, NJ. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 pm and again on Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10 :30 am at the Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks St, Bordentown, NJ. Inurnment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
