Obituary

Nicholas C. Bonsanto, Sr., 87, of Bordentown, passed away Saturday April 26th at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Hamilton. Born in Hoboken, NJ, he was a longtime Bordentown Twp. resident. Nicholas was a WWII veteran, serving as sergeant in the US Army Medical Corps. He was the co-owner and operator of Crescent Sportswear in Bordentown and then worked for the State of New Jersey Motor Vehicles Agency. In 1968 he served as Ambassador of Air Defense. A member of St. Mary's Church in Bordentown, Nicolas was very active in his community. From 1970-1975 he was a Bordentown Regional High School board member and served as committeeman for Bordentown Twp. from 1976-1979. He was the past president of the Rotary Club of Bordentown, a past commander of the American Legion Hamilton Post # 26, a lifetime member of the BPO Elks #2085 of Bordentown and a longtime Bordentown Little League Sponsor.

Nicholas is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eleanor J. Bonsanto; his children, Nicholas A. and Erika Bonsanto of Bordentown, Lucy and Richard Pompile of Chesterfield and Joseph and Georgie Bonsanto of Yardville; seven grandchildren, Nicholas F., Michael S. and Lucy B. Bonsanto, Kenneth C. Meister, III and Daniel R., Matthew J. and Phillip J. Pompile; nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday 10:30am at St. Mary's Church, Bordentown. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday 6-9pm at the Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks St. Bordentown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Nicholas' name to St. Mary's Church, 45 Crosswicks St. Bordentown. NJ 08505.
