Obituary

Monte Lee Horner was born August 27, 1938 at Mercer Hospital, Trenton, New Jersey the son of Norman Bell and Anna Earlena (nee Oakerson) Horner. He grew up in Hornerstown, NJ, graduated from Allentown High School in 1952 and received a B.S. from Butler University, Indianapolis, Indiana in 1961. He served seven years from 1961 to 1968 as active service United States Naval Aviation Flight Officer, and later in the Naval Reserve promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

Monte was retired, he was past employed as a Professional Recruiter for Magnavox, Ft. Wayne, Indiana; Human Resources at Control Data Corporation, Bloomington, Minnesota; Vice President and Construction Manager at Shoenrock East Construction Company, Lake Elmo, Minnesota; Independent Insurance Salesman, Hornerstown, New Jersey; and Grounds Supervisor at Jensen Deep Run Retirement Community, Cream Ridge, New Jersey. His last position before retiring was his favorite, driving a School Bus for Millstone Township New Jersey School District.

Monte had also been active in the YMCA Indian Guide Program, Ft. Wayne, Indianapolis; a State Director, Woodbury Minnesota Jaycees; State Director, President and Chairman of the Board, New Brighton Jaycees where he was instrumental in bringing Thoroughbred horse racing to Minnesota. He was also a New Brighton City Council Appointee for the Environmental Commission for Community Betterment Task Force. He was appointed by County Commission to the Ramsey County Social Welfare Board; and served on the Minnesota Governor's Commission on the Study of High-Tension Power Lines.

Monte is survived by his three children from his marriage to Jacquelyn Hunt. His son, Scott Norman Horner and wife, Robin of Edgemoor, SC; daughters, Nicole Lynn Howell and husband, James K., of Cream Ridge, NJ; and Dina Horner Gayle and husband, Harley D., of Columbia Heights, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Natalie B. Lollin and husband, Craig, Joshua K. Howell and wife, Allyson, Nicholas N. Howell, Jamaica M. Gayle, Makayla L. Gayle and Sophia H. Gayle and three great grandchildren, Aubri Lollin, Peyton Lollin and Harrison Lollin.

Monte enjoyed his family, reading, travelling, history and animals. He was also an avid sports fan and he liked the Phillies and College basketball and football. He adopted his companion dog, Peanut from his local Animal Shelter and memorial donations in Monte's name can be made to your local Animal Shelter.

Services were private. Arrangements were made under the direction of Peppler Funeral Home, Allentown.
