MJR Leonard J. de Groot , 77, of Bordentown township, has passed away on Monday, November 28, 2022 in Hamilton. Born and raised in Pompton Lakes, NJ, Leonard was a born and bred military man, piloting F-4s during Vietnam, he also owned and operated a small store in the Yardville area for many years before retiring. What was supposed to be a military stopgap in Bordentown turned into his lifelong home where he and his loving wife Carol raised their two boys Steven and Jeffrey, with Leonard going as far for his children as to carefully choose his work where he could, so the boys could finish their schooling in Bordentown with their friends and classmates uninterrupted. Leonard was a lifetime member of the VFW as well as the Vietnam Veterans Association. He was also a Master Mason, being part of Mt. Moriah Lodge #28 F&AM for many years. Leonard was a fantastic father, husband, brother, and grandfather and will be missed by all.

Predeceased by his parents; Jacob and Sara de Groot, and his beloved wife of 53 years Carol A. de Groot. Leonard is survived by his sons; Steven and Eugenia de Groot and Jeffrey and Sarah de Groot. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Steven de Groot Jr, John de Groot, Ben de Groot, and Jeffrey de Groot Jr. Leonard is also survived by his honorary daughter Amy Joannou.

Services for Leonard will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, December 5 ^th at Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks St. Bordentown, NJ 08505. A visitation with the family will be held from 3pm until 5pm on Sunday, December 4 ^th and again on Monday from 9:30 am until the time of service. Interment will follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran Cemetery located in Wrightstown. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Leonard's name to the VFW Post 587, 214 N. Water St, Paulding, OH 45879-1246.
