Obituary

Merle I. Barrett (née Miller) passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, in Lawrence, New Jersey, at the age of 78. Born in El Paso, Texas, Merle grew up in a military family, living in several places before her family eventually settled at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey. She graduated from Northern Burlington County Regional High School and later made Bordentown, New Jersey, her longtime home, where she spent much of her adult life.

Merle was the beloved daughter of Leonard Miller and Dorothy Ettinger, who preceded her in death, and was fortunate to also have a loving stepmother, Maria Miller. After high school, Merle went on to earn her associate degree. She later found her greatest fulfillment as a homemaker, dedicating herself to the family she loved so deeply.

Those who knew Merle fondly remember her as a social butterfly. Wherever she went, her enthusiasm uplifted those around her, and it was often said that she never met a stranger. Her vibrant spirit, kindness, and remarkable energy left a lasting impression on all who were fortunate to know her.

Merle is survived by her devoted daughters, Jennifer Lynch and her husband, Thomas Lynch, and Kimberly Barrett and her significant other, Michael Kleinschmidt; her adored grandchildren, Mary Lynch, Abigail Lynch, and Tessa Lynch; her siblings, Robert Miller and his wife, Guilan Miller, and Jessica Welker and her husband, William Welker; as well as many beloved cousins and close friends who will miss her dearly.

She faced personal loss with remarkable resilience, always carrying with her the memories of her beloved husband, Anthony Barrett, her beloved son, Thomas Jaichner, and her parents.

Merle also delighted in following the Philadelphia Eagles. Win or lose, her loyal enthusiasm for the team brought her countless hours of excitement and enjoyment.

A public viewing will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Peppler Funeral Home – Bordentown, located at 122 Crosswicks St, Bordentown, NJ 08505. A brief funeral service will follow at the same location starting at 6:00 PM. Inurnment will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Merle's name to a charity of your choice.
