Melvin Thompson, 92, of Cream Ridge passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at his home. Born in Cream Ridge he was a longtime Yardville area resident, before moving back to Cream Ridge in 1989. A U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II, Melvin was a combat engineer with the 348th Engineer Division in Europe and fought at the Battle of the Bulge. AS a result of his bravery and courage, Melvin was awarded the Silver Star. He retired in 1988 as a heavy equipment mechanic for Dale & Rankin Equipment Co. Melvin enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He also enjoyed playing guitar, listening to country music and loved being with his family.
Son of the late Malven and Anna Thompson, Melvin was predeceased by his brother, Milton Thompson; his sisters, Eva Thompson, Margaret Thompson and his brother-in-law, Edward Potts. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Bertie Thompson; his daughters and son-in-law, Beverly Thompson and Barbara and Mark Solis; his sister, Nellie Thompson Potts and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 1pm on Monday, August 15th at Peppler Funeral Home, 114 So. Main St., Allentown. Interment will be held in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery in Arneytown. Friends may call from 12:00 noon until time of service.
