Obituary

Mary R. Speel, 99, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2014, just a few weeks shy of her 100 th birthday. Born in Imlaystown, NJ, she grew up in the Bordentown/Chesterfield area where she resided for most of her life. Mary loved her family and took pride in nurturing her children and grandchildren in a loving home. She always had a great sense of humor and continued making her caregivers smile all the way till her passing.

Mary graduated from Bordentown High School in 1934 and was a graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing class of 1937. She became an RN when most jobs were private duty nursing. Mary was a member of The First Baptist Church of Bordentown for over 70 years, where she was active in the Lend-A-Hand Society and American Baptist Women's Missions, now known as the Women's Society. She was also a member of the Bordentown Chapter #257 O.E.S. for many years.

Wife, of 56 years, to the late, Edward C. Speel; Mary is predeceased by her parents, William and Beulah Reeder; eight siblings, Arthur, Irvin, Howard, Harry, Earl and Thomas Reeder, Edna Sage and Jean Bozarth Marshall. She is survived by her two children; Barbara Blair and her husband Kenneth and Dr. David Speel and his wife Patti; six grandchildren, Lauren McWhirk, Lindsay Blair, Janet Strusz, Jeffrey, Thomas and Jennifer Speel; seven great grandchildren, Sean and Katherine McWhirk, Simone and Genevieve Keier, Anna Grace and Madeline Strusz and Elle Joy Speel.

Funeral services will be held 11 am, Monday, February 17th at the First Baptist Church of Bordentown, 127 Prince St., Bordentown, NJ. Interment will follow in Bordentown Cemetery, Bordentown Twp. Friends and family may call from 9am until time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's name to The First Baptist Church of Bordentown Memorial Fund, 200 Prince St., Bordentown, NJ 08505.

Mary's family would like to thank all of her loving care givers, who became her second family, at her special assisted living in Arden Courts of Yardley.

Arrangements are under the direction of Peppler Funeral Home, Bordentown.
