Mary Lou Imp, 93, of Allentown, passed away on Good Friday, April 14, 2017, at Morris Hall in Lawrenceville. Born in Bantorf, Germany she moved to the United States the age of two and soon after arriving, moved to Saddle Brook, NJ where she grew up and later raised her family. Mary Lou was married for 68 years when the love of her life, Henry, died on Palm Sunday, March 20th of last year.
Her first job was with Bell Telephone where she worked for a number of years. Mary Lou was a woman of many talents, interests, and skills. She loved music, especially the opera, having attended many performances at the Met in NY. When she could no longer attend in person she and Henry would listen to the opera live over the radio. She loved to play the piano and before getting married, she used her first paycheck to buy a piano which she owned until two years ago. Mary Lou also had a gift for sewing. Shortly after buying her piano, she bought a sewing machine which was a remarkable achievement during WWII when there were so many shortages.
A woman of strong faith and convictions, Mary Lou converted to Catholicism as an adult. Consistent with her views of what was important; she made her home and her family her life's work. She was dedicated to her husband and her two children Carol Ann and Ray and later enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to making her family a priority and her home a place she was proud of, she also took time to volunteer in the community helping people for many years during tax time and also volunteering several times a week in the hospital thrift shop.
Mary Lou worked hard but she also had fun, taking time out to do things she loved such as flower arranging, ceramics painting, reading "Antique News" and searching out antiques. She loved to travel, visiting all of the contiguous 48 states with the family in a pop-up camper, taking on the hard task of planning the trip to make it perfect for her family. In later years she was able to enjoy a more relaxed form of travel visiting the two remaining states that she had not been to, Alaska and Hawaii and multiple trips to Europe and occasionally wintering in Florida, and summer vacations on Long Beach Island.
Daughter of the late Karl and Frieda Mund, she was predeceased by her husband, Henry; her sister, Elfriede and her grandson, David. Mary Lou is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol Ann and Ted Suarez; her son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Barbara Imp; her brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Carol Mund and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Raymond and Catherine Imp. In addition, she was blessed with five grandchildren and six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
