Obituary

Mary Catherine Attix Burton died October 3, 2012 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Jane Robin and Rieks Bruins in NJ.  Mrs. Burton was born in Kenton, Delaware.  After graduation from Smyrna High School, she moved to Wilmington, DE to attend Goldey College, now known as Goldey Beacom College, and lived together with her only sibling, Anna Stevens.  Mrs. Burton worked at Wilmington Trust Bank, prior to her marriage to James Robinson Burton. Together, they operated Burton-Conant Fuel Oil and later Burton's Produce in Rehoboth, DE.  Mrs. Burton was a member of Epworth Methodist Church; the Dewey Beach Area Citizen's Association and was a Daughter of Rebekah, affiliated with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.   She was an active supporter of many patriotic and environmental charities and the 4-H and was an Honorary Chapter Farmer in the FFA. In her later years, she attended her late husband's church, the Rehoboth Presbyterian Church of Midway.

Mrs. Burton is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jane Robin and Rieks Bruins; three grandsons, Benjamin and his wife Kathryn, James and his wife Gia and Jan Robert; a step daughter, Sydney Dunmon; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 8, 2012 at Parsell Funeral Home in Lewes, DE from 9 to 11 am.  Interment will be held at noon at the Rehoboth Epworth Methodist Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to the Rehoboth Beach Museum, 511 Rehoboth Ave. Rehoboth, DE 19971.
