Obituary

Marion McCullers , 95, passed away Saturday, October 9, 2021 at the Masonic Village at Burlington. Born in Trenton, she lived in Yardville, New Jersey for 59 years prior to moving to the Masonic Village in Burlington.

Marion was descended from several generations of South Jersey Methodists going back to the church's beginnings. One of her ancestors was a lay preacher in the Methodist Society of Monmouth, the first Methodist congregation in Monmouth County. Marion's ancestors also included American Indians from Kent County, Delaware. One of them was a revival leader in the Broad Street Methodist Episcopal Church in Trenton where Marion's family worshipped through five generations.

Marion grew up during the depression in the 1930s. She attended Trenton Central High School while World War II was raging where she was on the diving team and participated in school theatrical productions. Marion graduated in 1944. She met her future husband William T. (Bill) McCullers, Jr. on the Wildwood merry-go-round during the war. At the time, he was assigned to the Naval Air Station, Cape May. By 1944, Bill was on an aircraft carrier in the South Pacific, and they continued to correspond. After the war, Bill was assigned to the Naval Air Station, Alameda, California. Marion traveled by train to California where they were married in 1946. When Bill's Navy enlistment ended, they returned to Trenton.

Marion had a long career in the banking industry. She worked for the Bank of America in California, Trenton Trust Company and Yardville National Bank where she was the Executive Assistant to the President.

For many years, Marion was a proactive member of the Pearson Memorial Methodist Church in Trenton. She was a member of the choir and enjoyed participating in theatrical productions at the church. As a lay speaker at Pearson, she preached sermons there and at other New Jersey churches.

While a resident of the Masonic Village, Marion continued to share her love of Jesus by active participation in worship. She enjoyed singing in the choir and occasionally playing the piano during worship services. She also enjoyed entertaining other residents with her piano playing.

Marion was also a member of the Nottingham Squares and the Golden Nuggetts.

She was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Charlotte Dennis, her beloved husband William T. McCullers Jr. and her son-in-law Bruce Bauer. Marion is survived by her children Denise Bauer and Will and Joanie McCullers, four grandchildren Susan Bauer, Henry Bauer, Brendan and Shelley McCullers, and Sean and Erin McCullers, and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, October 30 at the Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks St., Bordentown, New Jersey. Interment will be private at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Acacia Hospice of Burlington, New Jersey.
