Obituary

Margaret A. Spinks Maple , known to her friends and family as Peg or Peggy Ann recently passed away at the age of 90.  She lived most of her life in Lawrenceville, NJ, and passed away on December 25, 2022 after a battle with dementia.

Peggy was born in 1932 to Thomas R. Spinks and Catherine E. Burger in Princeton, NJ. She graduated from Princeton High School and worked for a few years as a florist before marrying John U. "Jack" Maple, of Lawrenceville, NJ.

Shortly after marrying, they started their family having three children, Thomas (Joann), Alan (Patricia) and Heather Schwartz (Kenneth). She very proudly bragged about being the grandmother to seven; Brittany Maple Discepola (Paul), Christopher, Carlie, Chloe Maple, Tyler (Clara), Steven, Caitlin Schwartz and great grandmother to five; Jack and Ellie Discepola, Caroline, Trenton and Savannah Schwartz.

After Thomas was born, Peg dedicated her life to being a stay-at-home mother but as the family got involved in different activities, she volunteered her time where needed.  She spent time as a member of the Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville, the Lawrenceville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, Cub Scout Den Leader, volunteered with the Lawrence Little League and Princeton Legion baseball, she was a 4H Leader, team mom for many of her children's athletic teams and was Lawrence HS Band Parent President in 1984.  She and Jack were also very involved for over 40 years on both the local and national levels of the Grange, a fraternal organization advocating for support of community and agriculture. Most recently she reconnected with many high school friends as she became an active member of the Princeton High School Class of 1951 Reunion committee.

After the kids grew up and left the house, she re-entered the work force trying her hand at a few different things.  She was a secretary for the Lawrenceville Water Company, a part-time worker for the West Windsor Senior Center and a florist for a private floral shop and the Shop-Rite grocery chain.

Other than her family, her passions included crafts of all kinds, especially knitting, needlework, sewing, gardening and floral arranging.  She and Jack enjoyed camping with their friends, traveling the US and spending time at their little beach bungalow in Seaside Park, NJ.  Her favorite time of the year was Christmas where she could show off her knack of decorating her home to look like a department store during the holidays.

Peg was predeceased by her beloved husband, John U. "Jack" Maple, her father, Thomas Spinks, her mother Catherine B. Shields and her Stepfather William E. Shields.  She is survived by her brothers William Shields (Eileen) and Henry Shields (Lynn) as well as her three children, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at 11am on January 4, 2023 at Peppler Funeral Home in Bordentown, NJ to be followed by a burial service at Lawrenceville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.act.alz.org .
