Obituary

Lorraine K. Gary passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 7th, at her residence in Columbus, NJ.  Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Lorraine will be best known for her endless magical creativity, her steadfastness to life, career and family. graduated in the upper percent of her class from Englewood High School in Chicago and joined the Women's Naval Auxiliary in 1942.  She completed her basic training at Hunter College in New York City and continued Navy training at Iowa State Teachers College.  Her service included being stationed at Farragut, Idaho and later in Seattle, WA.  Lorraine achieved the title of Yeoman first class. She completed her service in 1945 and was married the same year to Alan G. Gary.  Lorraine and Alan moved to NJ in 1950, living first in Paramus and later in the Bordentown area. Lorraine had a strong work ethic that originated in her Mid-Western roots that motivated her to work all her life.  Her long career included positions at the former Lit Brothers Department Store in Trenton, New Jersey National Bank and in the legal profession.  She recently attained 45 years of continuous service at Manheim Auto Auction in Bordentown, NJ, formally known as NADE.  Lorraine had a passion for life and all it encompassed, including equal rights for women.  She pursued continuing education in interior design and later adapted to a changing world by attending community college.  In her later years, she pursued a life-long interest in travel around the world. She was an avid reader, an accomplished seamstress, gardener and mother.  Always with an independent style and grace, she will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

Lorraine leaves behind her three children and their spouses, Susan and Glenn James of Rancocas, Robert and Judith Gary of Hightstownand Jonathan Gary and partner C. Wayne Geiselman, of San Diego, CA;  four grandchildren, Laurie Noland of FL, Jennifer and Michael Boeseman of Burlington, Peter Gary of  Ewing,and Ross Gary of Hightstown; six great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.  Alan Gary passed away in 2007.

Funeral Services for Lorraine will beheld 9:30 am on Friday, April 15that the Chapel in the Brigadier General W.C. Doyle Veteran's Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Rd., Wrightstown, NJ.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Women Veterans of NJ in her name.  See: http://www.state.nj.us/military/veterans/wwii_memorial/contribute.htmlfor more information.
