Linda C. Taliaferro, 67, Haddonfield, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Penn Hospice at Rittenhouse in Philadelphia, PA. Born in Springfield, MA; Linda earned her Bachelor's Degree from Skidmore College, her Law Degree from Boston University and went on to earn a Master's Degree in Religion from Lutheran Theological Seminary.
Linda was an accomplished Attorney. In 1979, she was appointed by Gov. Thornburgh to the PA Public Utility Commission where she served a 10 years term, five of which she was the Commission Chairman, and was recently publicly recognized for her contributions and leadership to the Commission. Linda went on to work as a Special Partner for Reed Smith Shaw & McClay in Philadelphia and later established her own practice, Taliaferro and Associates. She served as the Special Hearings Officer of the Dauphin Co. Tax Assessment Board, was a member of the Board of Directors of Orange & Rockland Utilities, Inc., taught on the Graduate level at Penn State University and operated a Pro Bono legal practice to assist minorities and the poor. Most recently, Linda worked as a Senior Auditor for TD Bank in Cherry Hill where was certified as an Anti-Money Laundering Specialist.
Linda was also a founding member of the American Association of Blacks in Energy, a Member of the Board of Directors for the Resources for the Future and was invited to participate in the Atlantic Council of the United States. In her free time, Linda had a passion for golf and was one of the first members of the Keystone Golf Club.
Daughter of the late Ernest and Julia Addison Taliaferro, she was predeceased by two brothers, Addison and Anthony Taliaferro and a sister, Carol Kirby. Linda is survived by her sisters, Joyce Harden and her husband Gene of Hampton, VA and Deborah Brouhard of Gilbert, AZ; her sister-in-law, Gayle Taliaferro of Dauphin, PA; her brother-in-law, John Kirby as well as her nieces and nephews, Cheryl, Addison, Gene, Elizabeth, Julia, Addison, Ernest, Benjamin and Rebecca.
A memorial service will be held 4pm on Thursday, September 17th at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St., Allentown. Friends may call Thursday from 3pm until the time of service.
