Li H. Derasmo, 71, formerly a resident of the Enchantment in Hamilton passed away Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Bartley Healthcare in Jackson, after a five-year heroic effort recovering from brain surgery. Li had been living at Bella Terra assisted living, also in Jackson, NJ, for the past three years. Born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Li was the sixth child (out of nine) and the fifth sister. Prior to moving to Hamilton, she was a longtime resident of Bay Shore, Long Island.
Li is predeceased by her husband, John T. Derasmo, a U.S. Navy veteran, who she met while John was stationed in Taipei, Taiwan. After meeting her soulmate, Li converted to Catholicism and married on June 30, 1965, after which she moved to the United States, and learned English, became a U.S. citizen, acquired her GED, and held a variety of jobs, from bricklayer to licensed insurance agent.
Li was an active member of St. John's R.C. Church in Allentown and its 50-Plus Club. She had very deep faith and a devotion to the Blessed Mother. Prior to moving to New Jersey, Li made 5,000 rosaries by hand, which were donated to our men and women of the military stationed in the U.S. and abroad. Li enjoyed singing in the church choir and bargain hunting with her husband. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Li is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Maria Derasmo, and her grandchildren, Susan and John Derasmo, all of Cream Ridge. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Joseph Derasmo of East Rockaway, NY; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Diane and Greg Peck of Travelers Rest, SC; as well as several nieces and nephews.
