Obituary

Leon E. Mathews Jr., 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at his daughters home in Chester Springs, PA. Born and raised in Trenton, he had resided there until moving to Crosswicks, NJ in 1952. He was a WWII Navy Veteran and retired from Stevenson Supply Company of Mt. Holly. Lee was a Volunteer Fireman with the Union Fire Company No.1 of Crosswicks, the Fire Commissioner for District #1 of Chesterfield Township for over 30 years, a member of the Mt. Moriah Lodge #28 F&AM of Bordentown and the Crosswicks United Methodist Church.

Predeceased by his beloved wife Leonore K. Mathews and his sister, Harriet Reed, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Rand and Nancy Mathews of Wake Forest, NC, his daughters and sons-in-law: Heidi and John Harrison of Chester Springs, PA and Tammy Mathews and Thomas Dwier of Mansfield Township; four grandchildren: Joshua and Carly Harrison and Christopher and Kathryn Mathews; brother-in-law, Ted Kinter and sisters-in-law, Betty Robinson and Marilyn Kinter. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Brookdale Florence for their care, concern and friendship over the past two years.

Funeral Services will be 11 am Wednesday, January 11 at the Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks St, Bordentown, NJ. Interment will follow in North Crosswicks Cemetery, Hamilton Township. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 pm and again on Wednesday morning from 10 am until time of service. Masonic services will be at 8 pm Tuesday evening. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Crosswicks United Methodist, PO Box 303, Crosswicks, NJ 08515.
