Laura Jane Atkins ,88, passed away Sunday January 15, 2023. She was most recently a resident of Greenwood House in Ewing, NJ. Born in Trenton, she grew up in Mercerville and graduated from Hamilton High School. Outgoing and feisty, she made friends throughout her life with those who walked on both two and four legs. She was most proud of her daughters whom she loved dearly. She balanced family with work, and her passions. Her worked included years as an assistant to Dr. Clunan in Trenton and as office manager for Mercer Springs in Hamilton. She had an artistic gene, which was expressed through painting, jewelry and craft work, and the crocheting of countless quilts. She was an avid reader and love to watch crime dramas and had a green thumb with African Violets.
Predeceased by her husband, Francis N. Atkins and her brother, William Carpenter she is survived by her three daughters: Susan Atkins Bishop and her partner, Paul Freedman of Lawrence Township, NJ, Nancy Atkins Peasley and her husband Mike of Ambler, PA and Holly Atkins Wagner and her husband Scott of Newark, DE. Her brother, James B Carpenter and wife Carie of Santa Anna, Ca, her sister-in-law Rose Ann Carpenter of Hamilton Township, her two grandchildren: Tara Spiecker of Fort Washington, PA and Travis Spiecker (Valerie) of Holland PA, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours for Laura will beheld Friday evening, January 20 from 5-7:30 at the Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks St, Bordentown, NJ. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Laura's name to the Hamilton Township Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, 2100 Sylvan Avenue, Hamilton Township, NJ 08610, the ASPCA or any Animal Rescue League.
