Kenneth J. Elgrim, 72, of Cape Coral, FL passed away suddenly on February 19, 2015. Ken was born on 8/17/1942 in Trenton and was a resident of Allentown, New Jersey prior to building a home and retiring to Florida ten years ago. Ken was employed by Roadway Trucking for thirty five years. He earned the distinction of "Million Miler" an honor given to drivers who provided at least one million miles of accident-free service. Ken served for four years in the US Navy and braved the Bay of Pigs and Vietnam conflict. A fun fact that Ken liked to share (and his family enjoyed viewing) is that while in the Navy he was filmed for the 1963 war movie PT 109. The movie depicts John F. Kennedy as an officer in command of Motor Torpedo Boat PT 109 during WWII. Ken was an avid fan of NASCAR and antique cars. He was a member of The American Legion and the Cape Coral Irish Club. Ken used to often speak of his fond memories of Buckley farm which his grandparents owned which today is Mercer County Park. Ken loved the adventure of travel and together he and his beloved wife Helen explored much of the US, Europe and countless islands. Sadly a trip to Holland was being planned before his passing. Ken was an extraordinary man, a devoted husband, father and grandfather who cherished family above all else. He was known for his kindness, generosity and willingness to help everyone. His fantastic sense of humor, infectious laugh and zest for life won Ken countless friends and admirers.
Ken was predeceased by his parents William and Helen (Hart) Elgrim and brothers William, Eugene and Raymond.
