Obituary

Joseph Tomaino, 94, of Toms River, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at the Chelsea at Toms River.  Born in Red Bank, he resided in the family home on Willow St. for his entire life before moving to the Chelsea in Toms River. A WWII Navy veteran, Joe served as a member of the Seabees and was stationed in Okinawa. Following his military service, he worked as a driver for Seaboard Oil and Gas Corporation for many years. After his retirement, he delivered meals to senior citizens in Red Bank, bringing smiles and care to everyone.

Joe loved going to the horse races at Monmouth Park, cooking, and gardening.  He loved people, made friends easily, and brought a smile to everyone he met. Above all, Joe's greatest love was his family.  He enjoyed the time he spent helping to raise his niece and goddaughter, Pattie Tomaino and loved sharing the family history by working on the Tomaino legacy book.

Son of the late Pietro and Marianna Tomaino, Joe was predeceased by his sister, Mary Bosco; his brothers, Pasquale and Thomas and their spouses; his niece, Angela Tomaino Morley and his great nephews, David and James Blanchard.  Joe is survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and was so proud to share his birthday with the youngest great great nephew, Chance Blanchard.  Among those to share his memory are, Pattie Tomaino Blanchard, and her husband, David, Rich Blanchard, Miles, Cameron, Dawson and Chance Blanchard, Joe Bosco and his wife, Cecilia, Brian Bosco, Caroline and Thomas Bosco, Tara Bosco, Ashley Bosco, Rose Widdis, and her husband, Art, Tony Tomaino, Alan Davis, Mike Donnally, Davielle Blachard, Quentin Blanchard, and Dallas and Delilah Solma as well as many friends.  If Joe considered you a friend, it was for life.  He had the biggest heart and was always there to help others.

Joe took great pride in his military service.  His one request was to be buried in his Navy uniform and the request was fulfilled by his great niece, Tara.  A private burial with military honors was held at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery in Arneytown.  Arrangements were under the direction of Peppler Funeral Home, Allentown.
