"Roy" Parcels
April 20, 1920 – July 14, 2018
John L. "Roy" Parcels, 98, died surrounded by family on July 14, 2018 at the Masonic Village in Burlington, NJ. He lived in Bordentown before moving to Columbus in 1967. He was a WWII Army Air Force Veteran and graphic designer. A graduate of William MacFarland High School and Trenton School of Industrial Arts, where he also taught, he designed for Trenton Folding Box Co. and then for Manhattan's Jim Nash Associates before forming Dixon and Parcels Associates with Russ Dixon in 1958. In 2000, he moved the business from New York to Columbus as J. Roy Parcels Associates. Inducted into The Packaging Hall of Fame in 1988, Roy received many honors and awards for packaging design and iconic logos for companies in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Designs for colleges included Penn State's Nittany Lion.
Predeceased by his wife Vivian Brown Parcels, he is survived by his son, John L. Parcels, Jr. and his two daughters, Jane Humble (Jim) and Vivian Showalter (Scott), grandchildren Anne Thomas (Lindsey), Susan Parcels, Sarah Showalter (Gabe Dusenbury), Stephen Showalter (Kelsey), Craig Humble (Sarah), Evan Humble (Rebecca), John Humble (Kate), and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation is on July 28 from 12:00-1:00 PM at Columbus Baptist Church, 24260 W. Main Street, Columbus, followed by a memorial service 1:00-2:00 PM. Arrangements are under direction of Peppler Funeral Home, Bordentown, NJ. Donations may be made to Acacia Hospice, 902 Jacksonville Road, Burlington, NJ 08016.
