John C. Rhein, 90, of Manchester, NJ, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at his home. Born in Newark, John resided in Nutley, NJ for many years before moving to Manchester 25 years ago. He was a US Army veteran serving in the 11th Airborne Division during the Korean Conflict. John retired from Anheuser-Busch in Newark after 37 years. He was a member of St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church in Toms River. John was active with the Nutley Emergency and Rescue Squad for many years, as well as the Point Pleasant Beach Fire Company II. He loved to travel with his wife Sally, especially to Aruba and Disney World.
Son of the late Eugene and Ellen Rhein, he was predeceased by his loving wife of 65 years, Sally Rhein and his grandson, Joseph. John is survived by his children, Dominic and Joanne Rhein, John M. and Monica Rhein, Debra and Eugene Stabulis, and Ronald and Elizabeth Rhein; his grandchildren, Jeffrey and his wife Gabrielle, Andrew and his wife Savanna, Cassandra, Stephanie, Daniel, Michael, Zachary and his wife Brianna, and Brianna and her husband Matthew Zingaro; his great grandsons, Kane and Jack; sister, Joan Huhn as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be held 11 am on Friday, September 29th at St. John the Baptist Church, 1282 Yardville-Allentown Rd., Allentown. Friends may call from 9am to 10:30am at Peppler Funeral Home, 114 So. Main St Allentown. Interment will follow mass in Brigadier Gen. William C Doyle's Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown.
