Major John Craig, USMC passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 with his loving family by his side. John was two weeks shy of his 99th birthday. He served in the United States Marine Corps for 21 years before retiring as a Major. His services included numerous tours in WWII and the Korean conflict. Through his many tours one of his proudest was helping the children in Okinawa, by building their school. He served with distinction, earning a Purple Heart and a Marine Corps Commendation medal as well as many other medals.
After his retirement, he began a second career as a traffic manager for DVRPC in Philadelphia, PA for 20 years. His third career included being a caretaker with his wife Phyllis for the Bordentown Cemetery Association. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #28 F&AM; the American Legion Post 26; the Bordentown Historical Society; Bordentown Senior Citizens and past president of AARP.
He is predeceased by his loving wife Phyllis (Asson); his parents Elena and Robert Craig; his brothers James (Mae); Robert (Belle); Albert (Dot); Mildred and Howard Asson; sister-in-law Elizabeth; sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Sterling Asson and niece Terri Craig. He leaves behind those who cherish him: daughter Betsy (Roy) Clinedinst; Sally Craig and Judy B. Craig; grandchildren Lee and John Brodowski; Jennifer (John) Cidoni; Sean Clinedinst; great grandchildren Lucas and Siena Cidoni; a very special friend Anne Wewer; many lovely nieces and nephews; and Anna Litz and Sruti Desai.
Funeral Services will be held 10 am Tuesday, October 17 at the Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks St, Bordentown, NJ. Interment will follow in Bordentown Cemetery, Bordentown Township. Friends may call Monday evening from 6 to 8 pm and again on Tuesday morning from 9 am until time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in John's name to the Bordentown Cemetery Association, 210 Crosswicks Rd, Bordentown, NJ 08505.
